COMMUNITY SERVICE PAGE
Our group is somtimes contacted by Law Enforcement or others requesting our assistance to recover lost items or remove hazardous items from the ground. Because of the sensitive nature of these type of hunts sometimes we are not permitted to share information that is sometimes classified. Members are contacted by e-mail about the event and asked to respond if they would like to volunteer for the event.
Date: 5-19-2013
Place: Brandywine Polo Club
Assignment: Recover nails and other hazardous items that could possibly injure horses, riders or attendees after tornado damage to stable barn adjacent to arena.
Status: Ongoing
Nine members of SPHRG were in attendance on a cool windy drizzly Saturday. We started scanning the grassy area next to the barn that was damaged and then worked the inside of the arena. We recovered many nails and other potentially dangerous metal objects. The owners were grateful for our assistance and requested that we return at a future date to hunt more of the grassy field on the other side of the arena. The tornado carried the roof of the barn across the arena and scattered nails in another section of field as well. Members will be contacted on future hunt date.

Assignment: Recover nails and other hazardous items that could possibly injure horses, riders or attendees after tornado damage to stable barn adjacent to arena.
Status: Completed
Five members of our group came out in the heat to finish up the search for nails that were missed the first time we came out. We were contacted again because one of the Polo horses was injured by stepping on a nail. We re-scanned the area again and found quite a few nails and other sharp objects and removed them. Thanks to all who attended.
